Hialeah is in the same judicial circuit as every other city in Miami-Dade County. The 11th Judicial Circuit covers the entire county. So the same clerk, the same courts, and the same rules apply whether your ticket was written in Hialeah, Miami, or any other Miami-Dade city.

Paying Hialeah Traffic Tickets

The 30-day payment deadline applies to all Hialeah traffic tickets. Florida Statute 318.14 requires action within 30 days of the citation date. If you miss that window, a $16 late fee gets added and the DHSMV can suspend your license.

Payment options for Hialeah tickets are the same as all Miami-Dade County citations. Online payments go through the Traffic Online Payment System on the clerk's website. They accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. Pay by phone at 305-275-1111 using the 24-hour automated system. Mail a check or money order payable to "Clerk of the Court and Comptroller" to PO Box 19321, Miami, FL 33101-9321. In-person payments are accepted at district court locations across Miami-Dade County.

Hialeah Traffic Ticket Choices

Hialeah drivers have three main options for dealing with a traffic ticket. The choice you make affects your driving record, your wallet, and how long the process takes.

Paying the fine is the quickest route. The case closes right away. But it counts as a conviction and points go on your record for moving violations. Under Florida Statute 318.18, moving violations start at $60. Speeding fines range from $25 for going 6 to 9 mph over to $250 for 30 mph or more over the limit. School zone violations are double. Non-moving violations carry a $30 base fine with $18 in court costs.

Electing traffic school is the second choice. Contact the Miami-Dade Clerk within 30 days and say you want to take a Basic Driver Improvement course. You pay the fine with an 18% reduction. Complete the course within 90 days. File the certificate with the clerk. No points get assessed. This option is limited to five times in your lifetime and once per 12 months. It does not apply to CDL holders, tag violations, registration violations, toll violations, or red light camera tickets.

Contesting the ticket is your third choice. Request a court hearing within 30 days. If you are between 31 and 180 days past the citation date, a $16 late fee is required to get your case on the court schedule. After 180 days, you need to file a motion with the administrative traffic judge.

Hialeah Police Department

The Hialeah Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency in the city. Their address is 5555 E. 25th Avenue, Hialeah, FL 33016. The non-emergency number is 305-687-2525. The department's officers patrol city streets and issue citations for moving and non-moving violations.

Hialeah has some of the busiest roads in Miami-Dade County. Palm Avenue, West 49th Street, and the Palmetto Expressway corridor see heavy traffic and a high volume of citations. Red light cameras also operate at certain intersections. Those tickets follow their own rules and must be addressed within 30 days as well.

For statewide traffic ticket information, visit the FLHSMV traffic citations page. To check if a Hialeah ticket has caused a license suspension, use the MyDMV Portal.

Hialeah Traffic Records and Driving History

You can look up your Hialeah traffic ticket through the Miami-Dade Clerk's civil traffic infractions page. The system shows your case status, amount owed, and any court dates. You can also submit documents through the E-Portal at myflcourtaccess.com as a self-represented litigant.

For your complete driving history that includes all Florida traffic violations, not just those from Hialeah or Miami-Dade County, visit the FLHSMV driving record page. A 3-year record costs $14.25 and a 7-year record is $16.25. This report shows every violation and every point on your license from across the state.

Unpaid Hialeah tickets lead to license suspension. The clerk notifies the DHSMV, which mails a suspension order. The suspension takes effect 20 days later and stays on your record for seven years. Reinstatement requires paying everything owed plus a $60 fee.

Traffic School for Hialeah Drivers

Approved Basic Driver Improvement courses are listed on the FLHSMV approved traffic schools page. Many courses can be taken online. Prices vary by provider. After finishing the course, confirm that the school sends your completion certificate to the Miami-Dade Clerk. Do not assume they will. If the clerk does not have proof of completion, you lose the traffic school benefits and get full points plus possible suspension.

Note: Citations for expired driver's license (less than 4 months expired), registration, PIP insurance, or defective equipment may be dismissed in Miami-Dade County if you show proof that you had valid documentation before the citation was issued. A dismissal fee still applies, and this is not payable online.
