Paying a Tamarac Traffic Ticket

Paying your ticket is a guilty plea. Points go on your license for moving violations. Fine amounts follow Florida Statute 318.18. Moving violations start at $60 before court costs. Nonmoving tickets are $30. Speeding fines go from $25 for 6 to 9 mph over the limit up to $250 for 30 mph or more over. Fines double in school zones and active construction zones. Court costs and surcharges are added on top of every fine.

Pay online at browardclerk.org or through PayFLClerk.com. Select Broward County. A processing fee applies. By phone, call (954) 831-6565. By mail, send a check or money order to P.O. Box 14610, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33302-4610. Make it out to "Clerk of the Court." Do not send cash. In person, visit any Broward traffic branch. The North branch in Deerfield Beach is the most convenient for Tamarac. Cash at any Florida AMSCOT has no extra clerk fee.

Need more time to pay? Payment plans are available. Go to a branch in person with your ID and citation. A $25 per case processing fee applies. Plan payments must be made by mail or in person.

Tamarac Citation Response Options

Three options after a Tamarac traffic ticket. Choose within 30 days.

Pay the fine. Simple. Fast. You accept the charge and points go on your record for moving violations. Nonmoving tickets have no points.

Elect traffic school. Pay the fine at an 18% discount and take a Basic Driver Improvement course within 90 days. No points. No conviction. The clerk withholds adjudication. You can use this five times in your life and once per 12 months. CDL holders cannot elect it. Tickets for 30 mph or more over the limit are not eligible.

Contest the ticket. Ask the Broward Clerk for a hearing within 30 days. You can also submit a conditional plea of no contest by email to TrafficeClerk@browardclerk.org. This skips the hearing for eligible cases. No points. No adjudication. If found guilty at a hearing, fines can reach $500 for standard violations or $1,000 for school and construction zone tickets. If you miss the 30-day window but are within 180 days, pay the $16 late fee and then take action. Past 180 days, you need to file a motion with the court.

Traffic School for Tamarac Drivers

Tamarac residents can avoid points by taking traffic school. You save 18% on the fine and your record stays clean. Tell the Broward Clerk you want the course within 30 days. Pay the reduced fine plus a $7.00 affidavit fee. Finish the Basic Driver Improvement course within 90 days.

Find approved courses at the FLHSMV website. Most are online and can be done from home at your pace. Prices differ between providers but the state controls the content. The school should send your certificate to the Broward Clerk after you finish. Call (954) 831-6565 to check that it arrived. If it does not show up on time, you face full points, lose the discount, and could end up with a license suspension.

Suspension Risks for Tamarac Tickets

Letting a Tamarac traffic ticket go unanswered leads to a license suspension. The FLHSMV takes action when you do not respond within the allowed time frame. Under Florida Statute 318.15, the suspension holds until you resolve the ticket with the Broward Clerk and pay a $60 reinstatement fee to the state. That suspension remains on your record for seven years.

Point totals from all Florida tickets can also trigger suspensions. Twelve points in 12 months gets a 30-day suspension. Eighteen points in 18 months brings three months. Twenty-four points in 36 months means a full year. Use the MyDMV Portal to check your points and license status at any time.
