Search Broward County Traffic Tickets

Broward County traffic ticket records are maintained by the Clerk of Courts and Comptroller under Clerk Brenda D. Forman. With nearly 2 million residents, Broward County is one of the busiest jurisdictions in Florida for traffic citations. The county has four regional traffic offices spread across Fort Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach, Hollywood, and Plantation to serve the large population. From I-95 corridor speeding tickets to local road infractions, every citation issued in Broward County flows through the clerk's traffic and misdemeanor division. The office processes payments, court hearings, traffic school elections, and record requests for all types of traffic ticket records.

Paying Broward County Traffic Tickets

Broward County gives you many ways to pay a traffic ticket. Online payment through the clerk's website is available around the clock. The PayIt app and website at payitbrowardclerk.payitgov.com is another digital option, and you can download the PayIt mobile app from the App Store or Google Play. AMSCOT locations across Florida accept cash payments for Broward County traffic tickets too.

For mail payments, send a check or money order to: Clerk of Courts, P.O. Box 14610, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33302-4610. Do not send cash by mail. In-person payments are taken at any of the four Broward County traffic service locations. Credit cards are accepted online and in person with a photo ID. Processing and transaction fees apply to card payments. The statewide PayFLClerk.com portal also connects to Broward County's system.

There is an important catch with online payments in Broward County. You can only pay off the entire balance online unless you have an established payment plan. Partial payments through the website are not allowed. If you need to make partial payments, you must do it in person or by mail.

Note: You must pay your Broward County traffic ticket within 30 calendar days of the citation date under Florida Statute 318.14.

Broward County Traffic Ticket Payment Plans

If you cannot pay your Broward County traffic ticket in full, a payment plan may be an option. You must go in person to one of the four service locations to set it up. No one else can do it for you. Bring your ID. There is a $25.00 processing fee per case to start a payment plan. Once the plan is active, payments must be made by mail or in person using cash, check, or money order. Online payments on a plan work only for the full remaining balance.

Payment plans help you avoid license suspension by keeping your Broward County ticket in good standing. But you have to stay current on the payments. If you fall behind, the clerk can report you to FLHSMV, and your license goes right back on the chopping block. The plan does not erase the debt; it just spreads it out over time.

Broward County Driver Improvement School

Broward County follows Florida Statute 318.14(9) for traffic school elections. As of January 1, 2020, electing school gets you an 18% reduction in the fine amount. To elect, you pay the reduced fine plus a $7.00 driving school affidavit fee within 30 days of the citation. Then complete an approved course within 90 days and send the original completion certificate to the Broward County Clerk.

Not everyone qualifies. CDL holders are excluded. If your Broward County ticket was for going 30 mph or more above the speed limit, school is not available. You can only use this option five times in your life, and no more than once per 12-month period. Approved schools are listed at FLHSMV's approved course page.

Broward County Conditional No Contest Plea

Broward County offers a conditional plea of no contest for some civil traffic citations. This option is available for eligible tickets that did not involve a crash and do not need a mandatory hearing. A conditional plea means no court hearing is needed, no points go on your license, and adjudication is withheld. It is handled through paperwork instead of a court appearance.

You can submit a conditional plea by email to TrafficeClerk@browardclerk.org or by mail to P.O. Box 14610, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33302-4610. Not all Broward County traffic tickets qualify for this option. Contact the clerk's office to find out if yours does. This can be a good middle ground if you do not want to plead guilty outright but also do not want to go to trial.

Special Broward County Traffic Violations

Some Broward County traffic tickets have different rules than a standard speeding citation. Driver license, registration, and insurance violations can sometimes be dismissed if you show valid documentation that was in effect before the ticket date. You send the dismissal fee, the citation, and a photocopy of the valid document to the clerk. These tickets cannot be paid online in Broward County.

Improper equipment violations offer a chance for a reduced fine. You have 30 days to get the vehicle inspected by a law enforcement agency. The officer signs the back of the citation saying the defect is fixed. Then you send in the reduced payment. This is also not payable through the internet. Red light camera violations and toll or SunPass violations follow their own 30-day timelines in Broward County. Toll violations are payable online. Red light camera tickets give you the standard three choices: pay with points, elect school if eligible, or plead not guilty.

You can also get copies of Broward County traffic ticket records. Regular copies cost $1.00 per page. Certified copies are $2.00 per page. Driver license history records cost $14.25 for a 3-year report and $16.25 for a full history at any Broward County service location.

Broward County Traffic Fines

Fine amounts for Broward County traffic tickets follow Florida Statute 318.18. Speeding fines start at $25 for 6-9 mph over and go to $250 for 30+ over. Moving violations carry a $60 base fine. Nonmoving violations are $30. Court costs of $35 for moving and $18 for nonmoving get added. School zone and construction zone fines are doubled in Broward County.

Missing the 30-day deadline adds $16. After that, license suspension looms. Reinstatement fees from FLHSMV are $60. Late fees, reinstatement costs, and the original fine all add up quickly. Paying on time is always the cheapest path for a Broward County traffic ticket.
