Pembroke Pines Police and Citations
The Pembroke Pines Police Department writes most traffic citations in the city. Their main station is at 9500 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024. Call (954) 431-2200 for general information. The city website is at ppines.com. Pembroke Pines PD uses the Florida Uniform Traffic Citation form, same as all agencies in the state. Once an officer gives you a ticket, the citation goes to the Broward Clerk for processing.
The Broward Sheriff's Office also patrols parts of Pembroke Pines. State troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol can write tickets on major roads like I-75, which runs through the city. No matter which agency issues the ticket, the Broward County Clerk receives and processes the citation. It may take 5 to 10 days for a new ticket to show up in the Clerk's system. If you try to pay right away and the system says no record found, wait a few more days and check again.
Payment Options for Pembroke Pines Tickets
Broward County gives you several ways to pay a traffic ticket from Pembroke Pines. Paying the fine means you accept the violation. Points will go on your license if it is a moving violation. Under Florida Statute 318.18, a standard moving violation fine is $60 before court costs and surcharges. Speeding fines range from $25 for going 6-9 mph over the limit up to $250 for 30 mph or more over. School zone and construction zone fines are double those amounts.
You can pay online at browardclerk.org or through the PayIt app and website. The statewide portal at payflclerk.com also works. Pick Broward County from the list and it takes you to the right payment page. Online payments have a processing fee. Cash payments are accepted at any Florida AMSCOT location with no extra fee to the Clerk. You can also mail a check or money order to the Clerk at P.O. Box 14610, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33302-4610. Do not send cash by mail.
If you cannot pay the full amount at once, visit a Broward Clerk location in person to set up a payment plan. There is a $25 processing fee per case for payment plans. You must bring your ID. Nobody can set up a plan on your behalf. Payment plan payments must go by mail or in person with cash, check, or money order.
Traffic School for Pembroke Pines Drivers
Pembroke Pines drivers who get a traffic ticket can elect to take a Basic Driver Improvement course. This is a good option if you want to keep points off your license. Under Florida Statute 318.14, electing traffic school gives you an 18% cut in the fine amount. The court withholds adjudication, which means no conviction goes on your record and no points are added. You must contact the Clerk within 30 days to elect this option.
There are rules. You can only use the traffic school option five times in your life. You cannot elect it if you already did so in the past 12 months. CDL holders are not eligible. If you were going 30 mph or more over the speed limit, traffic school is not an option for that ticket. You must pay the reduced fine plus a $7.00 driving school affidavit fee, then finish the course within 90 days. Send the original completion certificate to the Broward Clerk. The school may not send it for you, so check. Find approved course providers at flhsmv.gov.
Contesting a Ticket in Pembroke Pines
You have the right to fight a traffic ticket. Contact the Broward Clerk within 30 days to request a court hearing. You can also submit a conditional plea of no contest for eligible civil traffic citations. This option does not need a court hearing. No points go on your license, and adjudication is withheld. Submit the plea by email to TrafficeClerk@browardclerk.org or by mail to P.O. Box 14610.
If you miss the 30-day window, you can still request a hearing within 180 days. You will need to pay a $16 late fee under Florida Statute 318.18. After 180 days, you have to file a motion with the administrative traffic judge explaining why you did not respond. Failing to handle a ticket leads to a license suspension. The FLHSMV will mail you a suspension order, and your license stays suspended until you clear the ticket and pay a $60 reinstatement fee. That suspension stays on your FLHSMV record for seven years.
